Virginia Carroll taught art in New Jersey public schools for many years before retiring in 2010. In 2004 she was awarded the title of Teacher of the Year for her school as part of the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Program. While children’s art work gave her great joy, she is very happy to have time to devote to her own painting.
Ms. Carroll has a BA in Fine Art Education from Kean University. She has exhibited in various venues in Somerset, Union , Hunterdon, and Middlesex counties. These art galleries are among those places that have shown her work: Gallery U in Westfield, The Artist Framer in Cranford, Swain Galleries in Plainfield. In 2012 Ms. Carroll won Best in Show at the Watchung Art Center’s Member Show and was awarded a solo show at the center. That show, Serene Winter took place in December of 2013 . She has had two solo shows in the boutique at GalleryU, Autumnal in October of 2016 and another A Woven Tale in September of 2017. Ms. Carroll has added another solo show, She- Leads a Storybook Life in May 2019 at Watchung Art Center. This was a show of 22 mixed media pieces depicting women of strong personalities in various life situations. She has expanded this Storybook series to 30 pieces and in November and December of 2019 exhibited 27 of them at The Brodsky Gallery in The Chauncey Conference Center in Princeton.
Inspired by nature, people, color, texture, line, pattern and mood her artwork has an impressionistic feel. Virginia works primarily in acrylic on canvas and watercolors. Her newest favorite media is a combination of paper weaving, collage, and paint.
