Sarah Matthews is a printmaker and book artist. Her work has been exhibited in the US and is a part of the permanent collections of Yale’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, George Washington University’s Gelman Library, University of Puget Sound, and Samford University. Sarah is currently the Alma Thomas Fellow at the Studio Gallery in Washington, DC. She is also a YouTuber and a designer for ArtFoamies.com.
Sarah Matthews: Stacey! 2nd Edition
Block Printed Flag Book. Stacey! 2nd Edition is a flag book that celebrates the accomplishments of Stacey Abrams during the 2020 election. Because her activism is a testament to her perseverance and courage, I was inspired to carve Stacey’s portrait out of linoleum and block print pages to create the flags in this book. There is a duality in this piece as it also illustrates how important voting is in this democracy.
