RM Cimini: Facets_6
I believe art has restorative and transformative powers. My practice of meditation has engendered an interest in consciousness and transformation, and recent paintings which depict the transcendence of light and fragility of form represent a visual metaphor for our shared state of being and the transitory nature of life.
During the pandemic, I went outside only to walk the dog, most often in the woods.
The structure in these paintings was inspired by my daily walks in the woods where I witnessed the abstract patterns made by fallen trees and by the light coming through the trees and branches.
In these paintings, the illusion of depth in the picture plane created by vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines is undermined deliberately.
Each painting is created through multiple layers which are obvious on the painted surface when viewed in person. The viewer is able to glimpse traces of physical decisions made while creating the painting. This is important to me, I care deeply that the paintings be physical objects inviting the viewer into a direct and visceral response. Often I create the appearance of an aperture through which the viewer may look through to another view, such as the experience one has looking through open windows. The resultant radiant paintings depict the reality of spiritual life, embodying a belief in interconnectivity and mystery.
