As an artist and social scientist, I am drawn to images representing the inherent tension between man and the space he inhabits. The composition of my present photographs comprises a visual representation of obsolete machinery left along roadsides in the outskirts of urban areas. I zoom in, leaving behind the original object to focus on individual shapes as natural light displays shifting shadows of color and texture. The composition creates itself as I allow my eyes to roam, finally settling on an image that captures my attention. Interiors of abandoned buildings also provide an environment for me to explore. Tracking changing light beaming through the windows, on walls; the objects assume new possibilities for the potential images to be captured. The patina of decay often becomes a highlight as new colors and textures evolve throughout the day. These environs become my canvas, sparking my imagination, transforming objects into abstract images. As a byproduct of exploring these industrial burial grounds for artistic means, I have become more curious and concerned about the future of these urban resting places. Detritus from these abandoned utilities sink deep into the earth and waterways creating toxins which inhibits development for future generations.
