I began this series a few months ago after the murder of George Floyd, and the divisive presidential election and its aftermath. These particular pekelakh are filled with my battles with racism, judgementalism, and past guilts.
Miriam Stern: Pekelakh II
Pekl is a Yiddish word meaning bundle. The plural is Pekelakh. Figuratively speaking, this series explores the pekelakh we all pack, carry with us, try to forget or hide, or just let be. They come in different sizes, shapes, and colors. They contain the struggles we face with family and friends, the disappointments we experience, the embarrassing moments and times we feel guilt and shame. The Pekelakh float in a surreal space. Unless we open them and are willing to confront them, they will always be a heavy burden we carry.
