I was using the grayscale to improve my use of values. I like to paint from life so I created a miniature bed as a reference. The bedside reading How To Paint Like the Masters was an allusion to the book I was studying at the time. My hand and leg made it possible to add some action and a figure into the room. I loved playing with the mirror to include windows and perspective.
