Maya Just Maya: Mouthwatering Mutations

Maya Just Maya: Mouthwatering Mutations

SKU: 2020MBR00061.

My artwork reveals the interplay of reality and imagination as I examine issues of human identity, social and environmental conditions, and the consciousness of being.

We are emotionally starving in a fast-food culture of excessive consumerism and waste. Everything around us is overly packaged and processed, with an artificial appeal. Mouthwatering Mutations deals with the complicated issue of genetically modified foods, which could feed the world or kill us. They are perfectly safe or not.

My artwork reveals the interplay of reality and imagination as I examine issues of human identity, social and environmental conditions, and the consciousness of being. I celebrate the unity between humanity and nature, focusing on the evolution of self as a means to transform the world. My endless questioning the nature of our existence stems from an insatiable curiosity and a love for truth. I believe in the sacredness of the human experience. Art is a portal to transmute my curiosity into a form I can share, to transfer metaphysical exploration into imagery; to give form to the formless.

Throughout my body of work I examine the complexity and mystery of the human experience and expose the ever-changing and unresolved nature of life itself. I explore the majesty of harmonious patterns and relationships in nature and the eventual decline into chaos, often accelerated by humankind, before the cycle begins again. Influenced by Visionary Art as well as Social Realism, each of my artworks is like a labyrinth where every path tells a story. It is difficult to find our way through the intricate and often confusing state of things, but there is always a pattern or formula, that once realized, will lead us to illumination. When we are on the right path, the world becomes a magical place.

In the great adventure of life, I pursue a myriad of creative disciplines: I am a dedicated visual artist, art educator, performance artist, martial artist, pianist, poet, activist, and world traveler. My greatest fulfillment is teaching art to my high school students and igniting their creativity. It is magic to observe someone transforming in front of your very eyes, and an honor to play a role in that journey. Art is a powerful tool for change. Art inspires us to feel deeper, see differently, and ultimately has the power to elevate our souls to a spiritual level.
