Faced with small, daily-use, disposable items, which fall into the category of “non-recyclable”; by the local recycling program, Karen Tuveson chose to save and make them into a series of artwork as a way of tracking the quantities her family contributes to landfills. The pieces in this series, ‘Hygiene’ have diverted what might be seen as a small amount of waste. But upon reflection, viewers might consider how, when everyone contributes so many small items to global waste, we end up in our current environmental predicament.
