I began as a printmaker, and evolved into collage, working first with cut paper and later with my prints and other imagery. I do not have a fixed idea when I work but rather allow the color, lines, shapes, and patterns of the elements to speak and inform my work. For me, the joy of creating art is finding harmony from chaos and relating seemingly incompatible elements of color, line and movement. My process is intuitive rather than intentional.
Judy Gould: Totem
In this time of upheaval, uncertainty, and change, my art practice grounds me in what is important. Throughout the Pandemic, I have been asking myself what we humans have in common and what unites us. While totems usually represent symbols or emblems of a particular group of people, my totem speaks to and of the family of all humans.
