Joseph Schembri: Stage Right
I have been a professional dance photographer since the 1980s. Over the years I became intrigued with the behind the scenes aspect of performing and how to present these images beyond a picture. The photographs have become part of the narrative in creating mixed media images. My artwork takes a intimate view of the world of music and dance, referencing relationships musicians share with their instruments and the adventure a dancer takes with motion. The pieces are created through a multi-disciplines process resulting in an interpretation of a moment in time. The process begins with creating a digital painting. That painting is printed on canvas, textured with an acrylic gel and accented with paint, markers or ink to achieve the vision.
