Artist statement My most recent works have demonstrated the development of the human figure in a minimal abstract way. I simplify and exaggerated the human figure sometimes to its limits. Most often I flatten the figure out and add little shadow, variety of lines, or textures. I also take artistic freedom in my color choices. In nearly all of my paintings, I make a social statement about what is emotionally and or morally affecting me, drawn from the world around me.
John Piccoli: Summer on the Block
Both painting are abstractions of the Newark housing projects where I grew up. I lived on the 5th floor and would look up to my apartment windows for a light to see if anyone was home. I did not have a door key. What I absorbed unconsciously and consciously was a variety of atmospheres as seen in my paintings.
