Elizabeth Insogna: Window 4 installation

Elizabeth Insogna: Window 4 installation

SKU: 2021-00048.

My work investigates the territory of the divine feminine by encountering the queer spiritual, metaphysical and invisible layers of this realm.

Recent works include a series of ceramic vessels, ‘cauldrons’, which, when filled with water, and plant material grown from seed in my garden create a perfect ground for scrying and or hydromancy an old form of divination. This process allows participants access to unconscious patterns, images and messages in their own time. (Could be in person or virtual)

Plants have acquired meaning through the years linked to various forces in low magic, or the magic found and used among womyn, power that can be woven together intuitively and in times of need.

My recent sculptures are built with the intention toward certain plants, for offering vessels, and to communicate with them or hold the power of their dried powders, bones and flowers. The content of my work is engaged with unconscious imagination through ritual which works with alternate values in time, space and history often using the dream world as a portal. I’m interested in the ways work and intention intersect in the invisible world to become visible; the way that participation with related forces create and manifest together.

Performative work is invited and collaboration with artist, Kay Turner is, at many times, a part of this work and activates it. The proposal for WOMYN’S WERQ is collaborative and includes shards and remnants from Turner’s past performances “Spurning Fertility/ Smashing Tchotchkes” and plant ashes from Insogna’s garden to create a spiral of vessels created by Insogna that may be interacted with virtually or in person. The visual for this proposal has been created in part from Turner and Insogna’s recent dream project based on the red threads or metaphoric wounds of Persephone for Hecate’s Hanging Tree for Persephone’s Wounds (Interactive and activated sculpture by Insogna for past postponed project directed by Turner, Persephone’s Return, Persephone’s Revenge) and is now used as a visual ritual to access space in the dream realm.
