Elizabeth Demarco: Say My Name

Elizabeth Demarco: Say My Name

SKU: 2021-00004.

Abstract with graffiti, black, grey, and rust.

As a figurative/abstract painter and child of the 60s, my life has been informed by the racism and hatred I have witnessed since I was a child. These pieces express the angst of my experience in visual form.

Category: PrivilegePower. Tags: abstract, painting.

Sometimes my best work, on any given day, is the accidental marks left on my palette, which I have added to my portfolio: a sweet surprise. I recognize it and embrace it. Yoga helps.
Recently I have been playing with layers of different textures to explore how they relate to one another. I like the marks. I like transparencies.

  • Are they playing? Fighting? Are they dancing?
  • What do the passages reveal?
  • Do they complement each other?
  • Is it too noisy? Where is the silence?
  • Where is this going? Where has this been?
  • Is there a metaphor here that I recognize?

It is the instinctive process of the work that reveals the product. As the artist and creator, I decide if it’s worth keeping, or not.
Working this way is elusive, mysterious, challenging -the journey has opened up channels that evolve, retreat, jump into strange new worlds and keep me forever interested in creating and adoring art.
