Ceil Diskin: Art In The Afternoon, With Figure

Ceil Diskin: Art In The Afternoon, With Figure

SKU: 2020MBR00038.

Hi I’m Ceil Diskin, an artist working in mixed media collage, digital art and painting. The isolation of the pandemic has had a silver lining in that it’s helped me to focus more on my artwork and to work more inclusively on creating a unified body of work. I’m working on three tracks: collage, painting, and digital art. All of these mediums interest me for different and similar reasons. The tactile textures and elements of collaging both found elements, and pieces that I’ve created, is fulfilling via the construction and selection process. Painting takes me on a journey wherein the handling of the paint leads the way. Creating digital art is very liberating because you can undo and redo without having to look back–plus the color palate is easy to attain and endless. Through all of these methods, what interests me is telling a story by using shapes and colors that are choreographed into a flow, taking the eye of the viewer from point to point around the space of the work. What’s important to me, and what interests me in creating my work is that the elements are original, and also that the combinations and juxtapositions of the elements create instances that are uniquely original too. Something that’s never been seen before because it is unique to what I produce, not just to me as an individual, but what I produce at this particular time and place, that is influenced by everything that’s come before, but is unique to the moment.

I am an artist, photographer, and textile designer influenced by everything that I see around me. From a fried egg to an exhibit at MoMA.

Painting, drawing and creating shapes and colors digitally is, for me, an inherent process of joy, and decision making that comes from a deep place in my soul. I’m grateful to have been making Art for most of my life. The artistic process is ever expanding, and provides me with a very honest and beautiful heightened sense of awareness.

I’m passionate about making what we see, and live with, visually inspiring. So that the things we look at in our daily environment feed our spirit. I believe that Art provides the viewer, if these is a connection, with a transcendence from the physical to the spiritual, and creates a layer of learning, that wasn’t apparent before.
