I was born in Newark, NJ, raised in Brooklyn, NY and reside in West Orange, NJ for over 20 years. I’ve been creating art for as long as I can remember. My creative curiosity was stimulated when I was awarded a one-year scholarship to study at The Brooklyn Museum of Art. I went on to study media art for advertising at The School of Visual Arts in NYC in the mid ’80s which led to a career as a Junior Art Director in one of the world’s leading ad agencies, J. Walter Thompson, USA. I gained invaluable skills from photoshoots, working on print and TV ads for Fortune 500 accounts and from working with the best in the industry.
I left the advertising world in the mid 90’s to focus on my family and worked as a freelance graphic designer while also selling and promoting my own original art. Today, I continue to grow as an artist with continued art courses and lots of self-taught experiences.
My art is inspired by my love of nature, music, and movement. My painting style can best be described as abstract expressionism and African-folk and is influenced by artists like Matisse, Pollock, Rothko, O’Keeffe, and Kooning, to name but a few.
I’ve exhibited at various art venues and galleries and have been a featured solo artist in several exhibits. One of my most noteworthy creations is a permanent installation, commissioned by The Africana Institute at the Essex County College in Newark, New Jersey.
I’m an active community artist, volunteer and member of several art organizations. I am Co-founder and facilitator of an artist discussion group, Creative Connection. I am the former Chair of the West Orange Arts Council and currently a Mayoral assigned Board member. My focus these days is on bringing creative and cultural awareness to
my community and helping others to express their hidden creativity.
