In my work I am looking for ways to build up surface texture. I have found encaustic wax useful in giving my pieces a range of depth through layering.
Bob Barnett: Bear Outside My Window on a Snowy night
‘Bear’ was inspired by a very large bear very close to my window. The image started as an ink drawing playing with the space between the legs. Are you seeing houses against a night sky or are you seeing a big hulking figure? I wanted the overall feel to be very playful and somewhat primitive and felt that cardboard and wax would provide an interesting look.. The pieces I’m entering are all encaustic wax based. I enjoy exploring the various ways the medium can be used to build up surface textures. I have also recently added corrugated cardboard into the mix of materials.
