In my portraits I explore the ability of line and texture to create complexity. I create detail and expression using one strand of embroidery floss in a painterly fashion. Many stitches are layered organically in an assortment of colors to create tone and texture. Paint if used is for backgrounds to set off the figure. I am interested in capturing the essence of my subject. Most recently I have been stitching on rescued fabrics that I eco dye.
