I’m drawn to the landscape and natural forms. The patterns that can be found in the seeming randomness of nature, the play of light and shadow, the contrast of hard and soft, the vastness and the minutia all get my attention. I often find it awe-inspiring. I try to show the viewer the things that I find interesting, whether a vast expanse or patterns formed by a rocky shoreline. More and more I find myself focusing on the abstract forms that can be found there.
Anita Gladstone: The Cheese Stands Alone
I have been painting in soft pastel for more than 10 years and I love the immediacy and rich colors that the medium provides. I also have an affinity for rocks and started photographing them long before I started painting them. “The Cheese Stands Alone” was a fun exploration of a small section of a scene/reference I have painted previously.
