I am a self taught artist and enjoy working with various two dimensional mediums. I am most enamored with the human figure and portraiture and often use strong women and historical figures as my subjects. I love exploring ways to twist and turn traditional representations into something new. I work with a variety of mediums including paint and blending markers to create images full of color and detail. I am drawn to both the light and dark themes of fantasy, enchantment and fun. My goal is to create images that delight, provoke or simply make people see what they know in a different way.
Amy Whitman: Two Mothers
As an aging woman myself, I am beginning to feel kinship with those that have come before me and have a much greater appreciation for the wisdom and beauty that life brings. The mothering instinct is powerful and naturally extends beyond our children. I wanted to create a strong woman who personifies patience, love, dignity and understanding.
