Working in layers, technically, intellectually and spiritually I create images and sensations of movement, color, harmony and joy. Much of my work is inspired by the various materials I have collected, as well as by traditional materials in my studio. The creative process for me is intuitive, starting with materials and/or marks that I make. I like putting things together – sometimes pieces that seem not to go together. Combining things with a former life with new materials is a wonderful challenge. My work encompasses a variety of mediums ; oil, acrylic, water, prints, found papers and objects, image transfer and encaustic. In each artwork there may be one medium, two or many media combined in one piece. Inspiration comes from the inside , based on my personal distillation of the external world. My work has been exhibited widely in galleries and universities throughout the United States and also has been shown in Europe, Mexico, South Africa, Israel, Dubai and New Zealand. My work has been recognized with numerous awards. My paintings are found in many private as well as public and corporate collections. I have received several Geraldine R. Dodge grants as well as a grant from Soaring Gardens in Pennsylvania. Listed in Who?s Who in American Art and in Outstanding Arts and Designers of the 20th Century, published in England. With Susan Hammond I co-authored and published Artists Guidebook to a New Creative Life. I am one of 40 artists featured in the book Masters: Collage, Major Works by Leading Artists published by Lark Books. My work appears in several other publications as well.
Alice Harrison: Pieces for Peace Book of Prints
handmade accordion book with monotypes, gellii print, stamps, and collage. Books in any form are a joy to me…love reading…and recycling books to have another life- perhaps as a sculpture. In addition, I enjoy creating handmade books using a variety of materials including prints I have done.
