Michelle Harpster: Wallflower
“Wallflower” is a mixed media piece. The encaustic wax painting includes ink, gold leaf foil, and wallpaper. It depicts a woman who tends to blend in with her surroundings. A somewhat muted color palette was used to further create a sense of isolation. In addition, wallpaper was incorporated in the background of the piece, emphasizing the title of the work as well as the shy and somber look of the subject.
