As a child, designer Astrid Sarkissian was lulled to sleep with stories of her ancestors in the silk trade. Born in Paris, she grew up to study at London’s famed fashion school, Central Saint Martins, and creates exquisite, limited edition scarves, each one a spectacularly detailed work of art. She has also created an exclusive selection of intricate 3D hand-cut, hand-drawn collages, demonstrating her versatility as an artist. In May 2019, Astrid Sarkissian left Paris and she is know living in Newark, NJ.
Astrid Sarkissian: Le Carnaval des Animaux
During the coronavirus pandemic, Astrid forayed into creating art that links her creativity and previous experience in set design. This union brought to light the collection of 3D hand-cut and hand drawn collages presented here. . Astrid Sarkissian’s collages were inspired by Le Carnaval Des Animaux, a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements by the French romantic composer Camille Saint-Saens. Each artwork depicts a different movement, capturing a scene with the varied animals. Stimulated by the story created between the music and Saint-Saëns “Grand Zoological Fantasy”, Astrid shares her own vision of Le Carnaval Des Animaux presented here.
