Nature is my starting point, the inspiration for all my paper constructions and instal- lations. I am not interested in the representation of a stream. I want to evoke its energy – what it has been and what it is becoming at this moment. Similarly I want to convey the energy of human activity and its resultant patterns. For instance, the Mogao Caves of China are a recon guration of nature driven by religious devotion. My work becomes more and more abstract as I explore a subject. Another source of inspiration is paper. I paint it, stain it, cut and tear it, sew it, glue it, layer it out from the walls, suspend it from the ceiling. In short, I draw with it. It’s my medium.
Anne Elliott: Unfolding Story
Many images on both sides of a paper cut so it can be folded in many ways,. I have been making books of many pages. My objective is to present different images of a certain theme to explore the many ways of understanding it.
