When painting, I explore the implicit duality of place, both specific to and separate from a location in space and time. In my work, I slowly build layer upon layer, then scrape back to uncover earlier layers, like excavating through recent memories and experiences as though I’m unearthing an internalized existence from a distant time and place. This process simultaneously produces a form of compression and expansion, establishing an immediate locus that calls forth notions of infinity, formlessness, and immateriality.
