Michelle Kurlan rotates mediums between painting, installation, sculpture and mixed media, the common thread of transformation, transparencies and layers all resonate within her work. Michelle looks to patterns in nature, which often appear to be underwater scenes. She finds inspiration from the intricacies of microscopic life forms, and macro as the universe at large to represent them in a new way. The work emerges within the dichotomy of play and intentional manipulation. Through her artwork, Michelle Kurlan finds connections between the forms within three spaces hidden from view in daily life—the realm of microscopic organisms, the ocean depths and the world viewed from above. Michelle is based in Montclair, NJ; she primarily works with paint, clay and mixed media.
