I work in many mediums. I have a lot of art that involves social commentary as I like to engage viewers in the discussion. We all make up the world and it’s important to have those conversations in order to grow and evolve. And humor is a big part of how I view the world – always important to remember to laugh.
Paula Weiner: Discovering Spirituality in Bhutan
I have always been around art. My mother was an artist who was brought to Israel to create their BA/MA program in art education and administration for the University of Haifa. At the time, I deeply resented being dragged to art openings/museums/galleries/artist friends of hers etc. It took many many decades of denial before I realized that I, too, am an artist and then fully embraced the plethora of experiences I had been given. So it is with that knowledge and exposure I finally stopped denying that I was an artist. I don’t know what I found difficult to understand. For me, being an artist also means that our eyes can be open much wider than many people, exposing us to new ideas, people, cultures and forms. That is the gift of the universe if you look with new lenses and try on different glasses, so to speak.
I am proud to have been included in many catalogues and important exhibits (mostly in the northeast). Check out the website. www.paulaweiner.com. There is also some of my mother’s art there as well (she was also the sole artist to be invited to have her art on display at the prime minister’s house during the initial peace accord between Israel and Egypt in 1979. Peace is what we are all striving for. Hopefully it will come in my lifetime as it’s not too late for all of use to reach out and accept and care about one another.
