My paintings represent an attempt to merge the aesthetics and some of the techniques of the “Old Masters” with the spirit of contemporary experience, philosophy and theology.  I believe that representational-narrative art  can continue to encourage dialog among these different perspectives without abandoning the creative expression and technical skill of traditional drawing and painting.

In addition to drawing and painting, I am the author of books on topics in philosophy, the Kabbalah, and the psychology of C.G. Jung. I am a practicing forensic psychologist in New York and New Jersey and I am on the faculties of Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara and the C. G. Jung Institute in New York.

”Destina Triumphant” is a mytho-political painting that resignifies “Columbia,” the female personification of the United States who in the past has always been depicted as a white woman. In this work, which is oil on linen, I depict this symbolic figure as a woman of color who stands in celebratory triumph over America’s 45^th president. Conceived and painted prior to the 2020 election I thought of it as a talisman to help assure the election’s outcome. As it turned out Black women played an outsize role in the election and helped stave off what many believe to be a very significant threat to American democracy. I renamed the figure “Destina” in the hope that the equal and just society she represents is America’s destiny.
