Bettina Cousineau: Yellow Chair
I consider myself a cave painter. I make ritualistic marks on an uneven surface, and the simple lines meet to depict the story of my day. When I enter my studio, it’s as if I am jumping off a cliff – I have no foreknowledge or plan – I just want to work my way into shape, line, color, and feeling. It’s a heart-centered adventure. What emerges is almost beyond my control, and luckily, playful and glad: the pure spirit of my joyful heart expressed as a chair, a farm fruit stand, or a tent.
