In the ‘Devolution’ series I pour oil-based ink over iridescent powder and proceed to pull it over a paper surface with a metal blade. Slight gestures render intimate groupings of discrete forms that reference a multitude of genres and that appear to evolve – or devolve on the paper surface, reading as mutations of matter. This new body of work approximates previous drawing methods and continues a conversation between the abstract and the recognizable through an extended conjuring of visual phenomena.
