These two Irish cows, “whispering” in each other’s ear, caught my eye near the Cliffs of Moher, County Clare. I strive to render my subjects in a highly realistic yet painterly manner. Soft pastels are a natural fit, supporting both loose application and intricate detail. In this painting I experimented with indirect process, allowing rich undertones to vibrate through the upper, more realistic layers while maintaining value structure and depicting form and texture.
