I am compelled to create and build things. Experimenting with new concepts, methods and materials is what keeps me energized. I am at my best when I am with a pencil and a blank sheet of paper designing a new art project — particularly one that pushes my artistic boundaries. If I’ve seen it done before, it does not motivate me the way producing something new using something new does. Replicating or trying to perfect an existing template does not give me the challenge I need or seek. I am driven to put my own stamp of creativity on it — not just to be different — but to produce a work of art using whatever materials and methods that will get me to the concept I have in mind. I am by no means a purist when it comes to media — anything goes to get the desired result.
Jack Quinn: Following Double Masking Advice
Between the pandemic and the bitterly cold weather I was driven indoors so that my ability to use heavy duty wood working tools was limited. As a result, I turned to charcoal and myself as I executed this fun self-portrait. There has been little to laugh at regarding the Covid crisis but this was a small crack at it to lift spirits a bit.
