Sometimes my best work, on any given day, is the accidental marks left on my palette, which I have added to my portfolio: a sweet surprise. I recognize it and embrace it. Yoga helps.
Recently I have been playing with layers of different textures to explore how they relate to one another. I like the marks. I like transparencies.
- Are they playing? Fighting? Are they dancing?
- What do the passages reveal?
- Do they complement each other?
- Is it too noisy? Where is the silence?
- Where is this going? Where has this been?
- Is there a metaphor here that I recognize?
It is the instinctive process of the work that reveals the product. As the artist and creator, I decide if it’s worth keeping, or not.
Working this way is elusive, mysterious, challenging -the journey has opened up channels that evolve, retreat, jump into strange new worlds and keep me forever interested in creating and adoring art.
